After your performance in 2016, what happened?

AndeSky returned to  Colombia having learned a great deal from our first experience of the  World Sport Kite Championship, and  with  a clear goal  in mind :  to have   the opportunity to come back to WSKC  and  show  an improved performance of the team,    that knows  how to  value  and  take  advantage of competing  in such a  high level  event, and with  a new routine  that  we hope both the public and the judges enjoy.

As a team we have changes, because  two of the  members Sebastian and Elder  had to leave the team, and we have welcomed two new  passionate kite pilots: Nilton Contretras (who was previously  an AndeSky Team member but could not join us for the  2016  WSKC)  and  Jorge Beltran,  one of the most experienced  sport kite pilots in Colombia and former team member of  Bogotá 2600  who  attended  WSKC several times  in previous years.

In addition the team has had the chance to be part of important events such as the International Aspire Kite Festival in Doha Qatar, where we won first place in kite competition that took place at the same event.

Can you tell us more about your training program?

Our training program consists of a weekly routine with three components:

1) Indoor practice. Once a week at least, we meet   in  one of the team members’  houses  to practice using  sticks,  first  in  the creative phase of  the technical and ballet routines  and then using the time to fine tune  and improve precision.

We also use this time to watch our videos and learn from mistakes and think about ways of getting better, as well as watching other teams’ videos to learn from them as well.

2) Saturday training: dedicated to practicing the ballet routine in a local park where we usually go, crossing our fingers and hoping to have good weather and wind conditions.

3) Sunday Training; just technical routine and compulsory figures practice.

What material will you be using during this WSKC? (lines, kites, handles, …)

At this 2018 WSKC we are going to have this equipment:

4 Kite Sets:

SUL Pro Dancer from Sky Burner

UL Prediction from Flying Wings

Fury Standard by Carl Robertshaw

Fury Vented by Carl Robertshaw

5 Line Spectra Line sets:

50 Lbs.

90 Lbs.

150 Lbs.

200 Lbs.

500 Lbs.

Homemade Straps.

4 Bluetooth Headsets intercoms.

There are a lot of great teams performing during this WSKC. Is a podium place a realistic goal for you?

The world sport kite championship is a high level competition event, and as in any other sport the participants are always thinking about getting  the best score and position according to their training, physical and mental preparation, equipment and experience. For AndeSky the goal is to demonstrate a serious and determined improvement process, in this fascinating but not well known sport and hope for the best position that this process can bring us as a result.

Berck will be welcoming you with a great crowd. How do you think about the festival?

Berck gathers unique conditions to have, without  doubt, one of the most important and consolidated International kite festivals, including the beach or the “arena” for competition, the wind and weather conditions (by the time of the year where takes place) and the infrastructure needed to welcome worldwide kite lovers (such as hotels, restaurants, stores etc).  We have really enjoyed every time that we have had the chance   to come to the Berck Kite Festival and share with kite flyers from all over the world.
Behind this festival there is a lot of work wich is done by Gerard Clément. Do you have anything to say or suggest for this edition?

To say?  Just thank you!  First, for the important efforts  and dedication to the success of the WSCK every two years and for  supporting this  sport kite discipline and  providing the best conditions  for all the teams that arrive in  Berck.  As participants in the 2016 WSKC we had the opportunity to experience (live and know) all the aspects of the Organization   and we think it is simply impeccable. In fact, it is true that the only thing that Gerard and his team do not manage is the weather and wind conditions which fortunately are frequently good for kite competition. Your routine is probably well trained but can we also expect some surprises or will you be sticking to the traditional ballet?

For the ballet competition   we  have been  working on  mixing  some aspects for the choreography of the old school  ballet with  elements of the modern ballet, including shapes and  patterns,  looking to  create good  emotions that surprise  both  the spectators  and the judges.
The WSKC will take 3 days. Will it be possible to come and meet you beside the competitions?

Of course, it will be great for us to meet you and spend some time with you at Berck, Thank You!
We wish you good winds for this great competition. What can we wish you more?

We are from the tropic so it would be good for us a not too cold climate 🙂 in addition to maintain the support and comprehension of our families that we have had  until now,  regarding the time invested to training   and preparation to this competition that usually  is taken from family time.

Finally it would be great someday, to gain recognizing  from the private and official organizations to obtain sponsorship   that let us cover the investments in equipment for the  team  and expenses to attend more competitions.
